Madhubani art (or Mithila painting) is an ancient form of painting practiced in the Mithila region of Bihar(India) and Nepal.ย
Painting is done with various tools, including fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks. These paintings are still done on walls, handmade paper, cloths, and canvases using natural dyes and pigments in modern days.
For centuries, the women of Mithila have decorated the walls of their houses with intricate, linear designs on the occasion of marriages and other ceremonies.
Legend has it that the king of Mithila (Raja Janak) had commissioned artists to paint the palace walls on the occasion of his daughter Sitaโs wedding with Lord Rama.
